Home-made Lemonade
Home-made Lemonade
Home-made lemonade is traditionally tart, whilst at the same time sweet. Such a lovely refreshing drink on a hot day, especially served with lots of ice.
Most people love the fresh citrus tang. But I know some people have find it a little sharp for them. If you have a very sweet tooth you may want to add extra sugar. Alternatively, you could add extra water to make it less concentrated.
I would recommend using the juice from fresh lemons for this recipe. Otherwise, your home-made lemonade won’t have anywhere near the same level of freshness or vitality that it could have if you had used fresh.
Super cold home-made lemonade is much more refreshing than something served at room temperature. So, make sure you have plenty of ice for serving.
This is such a great drink to serve at barbeques or when visitors call. It’s very refreshing and much more impressive than a bottle of shop bought lemonade. Plus it has no preservatives, no artificial flavourings & no E numbers. It’s all natural.
It’s true, it takes a little more effort, but not that much more than making a cup of tea. So, no effort at all really.

Making Home-made Lemonade couldn’t be easier
First make the syrup
Put the sugar and the boiling water in a pan and bring it to the boil. Stir the sugar until it dissolves and forms a simple syrup. Set the pan aside to cool.
Next the lemon juice
Roll the lemons around on the work surface, pressing down firmly with your hand. This will help to release the juice and make squeezing them much easier.
Juice your lemons. Discard the rind and pips.
Ice cold water & lots of ice
Pour the ice-cold water into a large jug. Pour in the lemon juice and the simple syrup. Mix well and top up with lots of ice.
Garnish to look extra special
Slices of lemon and mint leaves can give that extra wow factor if you want to take it up a level.
Your Home-made Lemonade concentrate can be kept in the fridge for about 5 days.
