Sobia


Sobia – A creamy coconut-based drink, loved for its unique flavour and texture. Made by blending coconut milk with rice flour, sugar, and a touch of vanilla, this drink is thick, slightly sweet, and incredibly satisfying. Some variations include a hint of cinnamon for extra warmth and depth.
Sobia is much loved in Egypt and in Saudi Arabia, especially during Ramadan when you see street vendors selling it in nearly every street ready for theircustomers to take home to break their fast.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup white rice (soaked for at least 6 hours or overnight)
- 2 cups cold water
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups coconut milk
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Crushed ice (for serving)
Instructions:
- Grind the Rice: to a fine powder
- Soak the Rice: soak it in 2 cups of water for at least 6 hours or over-night in the fridge.
- Put the rice water into a blender: and add the rest of the ingredients.
- Blend until they are well combined: – this might take up to 5minutes.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer: cheese cloth, a coffee filter or a tea strainer.
- Chill for at least an hour before serving.
- Serve: Stir well before serving, pour over crushed ice, and enjoy!
